Elizabeth Matecki moved to Rumson in September, but wasted little time to join the 100 Mile Club. She joins her husband Tim as the first couple to accomplish the feat.
Elizabeth has been running since she was a child, participating in the Spring Lake 5 Kids races. She become more involved in our beloved sport while in Law School at Seton Hall. It served as a major stress relief when she was a scholar as well as today. She points out “Some people use running as a time to think. For me it's different. I use it as a time to turn off my brain.”
That mentality continues to serve her well today as she strikes a healthy balance managing everything on her plate. That plate includes working as an attorney for the Holmdel based tech firm iCIMS and serving as a Mom for 2 amazing little ones, ages 3 and almost 1 year.
She describes herself as a goal oriented runner, noting that she had it on her to do list to complete the 100 miles before August, as a post new-baby challenge. She is usually a morning runner, but also utilizes her company’s 12:30-2 quiet hours initiative to chalk up some miles when she can. She lights up talking about running in our area highlighting her favorite spots at Hartshorne, Sandy Hook and the parks of Rumson.
Her running resume includes the Jersey Shore Half, some triathlons and the 2015 NYC Marathon (along with running partner-turned husband Tim). More marathons and tri’s are in her future plans as well.
She shared some simple yet effective advice for others, “Just put on your sneakers and get out there. Once you leave the door, you are accomplishing something.”
She mentioned that her family serves as both a motivation factor and a helpful support system for her running. “I want to be healthy for my children and my family”.
We congratulate Elizabeth for her efforts and are excited to welcome our next member!
