The stars of the 4th and 5th grade Rumson Wild softball team are off to a tremendous start. Led by Coach Herr and Coach DellBene, he first two games of the season have produced some incredible action on the diamond.
Some recent highlights included newcomer Emma Kuo recording her first hit of the season, which was quickly followed by her first run of the season thanks to some speedy base-running.
Greta Zanetich has caused opposing pitchers to stay away from the strike zone when she enters the batter’s box by going 3 for 3 at bat during the team's latest victory.
Riley Berry and Maya Sharkey have also shown hot hands at the plate, crushing the ball to deep center field during recent at-bats.
Despite overcoming a recent leg injury, Victoria Herr is also making big hits to help the squad. It's not all offense with this group. The Wild are also showing their strength on the defensive side of the ball as well. Devan Rancitelli entered the last game and pitched a no run inning at a key junction in the game. Riley Tamashunas and Gabby Caetano have also become key pitching weapons. Both relievers started off their respective pitching careers with strikeouts out of the bullpen.
Now 2-0 on the season, the only thing that seems to be slowing these girls down is Mother Nature, who cut the last contest short before the Wild could continue their winning ways.
Fans can barely contain their excitement as the Wild have some key matchups on the horizon. First, the group will travel to play the Little Silver Hurricanes on the road before returning home to play the Little Silver Lightning in the friendly confines of Rumson’s Forrestdale School field.
