The red carpet needs to be rolled out for an incredible accomplishment as 13 year old student-athlete Sasha Egan becomes the first youngster to join the prestigious Rumson 100-Mile Club! So far, only adults have been persistent and dedicated enough to notch 100+ miles of running. Well...that glass ceiling has been shattered by a driven and determined young runner!
The Forrestdale student–athlete and future All-American track star completed the feat early in 2023. She loves the sport of running for many reasons and it is something that she plans to do for years to come. While she prefers to run longer distances, some of the field activities, such as long jump and pole vault are certainly on her radar.
In addition to running locally, she runs regularly at Monmouth University and recently scored a top podium spot for the mile at an MU meet. She was quick to thank her coach, local running expert Bob Gordon.
It is truly impressive to see such a fantastic student-athlete accomplish such a remarkable achievement. We applaud her effort and commitment and will be sure to look for more great things to come from “Speedy” Sasha Egan in the future.
Although the Rumson 100 Mile Club is very prestigious, it is certainly not exclusive. The Rumson 100 Mile Club welcomes all members, you just have to earn your way in. All you need to do is enjoy our parks, track your miles (via app or on paper) and show us at the Rec Dept. More information is available at https://www.rumsonrecreation.org/100mileclub & you can join our group on Strava @RumsonRec.
