The recreation basketball program is for boys and girls who are in grades K through 8, Rumson residents only. Grades 3-8 team practices typically begin in late December. The Kindergarten Clinic, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and game season starts the 1st Saturday in January and runs through the first Saturday in March.

Basketball Update February 26th.

 

Hi Basketball Parents.

 

There have been several changes to this weekend’s schedule.   

 

As a summary, please see the grade by grade breakdown. 

 

K-2 This Saturday will be our last session. The 12:20 session has been moved to join the 11:15 slot. 

 

3rd and 4th Grade-All games this Saturday are cancelled. There are no practices next week due to the older divisions having March Madness and we will wrap up on Saturday, March 8th.  All the girls will be from 1 to 2:30 and all the boys from 2:30 to 4.   

 

5th and 6th Boys – Regular game schedule this Saturday at RCDS. March Madness will be Monday at Forestdale from 6 to 9, with the final games (top 4 teams) on Saturday morning, March 8th. See below schedule.    

 

5th and 6th Girls – Regular game schedule this Saturday at RCDS. March Madness will be Wednesday at Forestdale from 6 to 9, with the final game on Saturday morning, March 8th. See below schedule.    

 

7th and 8th Grade Boys-No Practice tonight and no games this Friday. Practice will resume next Thursday with March Madness occurring on Friday, March 7th. 

 

7th and 8th Grade Girls – All Games this Friday will be at Holy Cross. The times have been amended to the times below.

Basketball Update January 7th.

There are no games on Saturday, February 8th as the school is closed. The regular season ends on Saturday, March 1st, however March Madness will begin on Monday, March 3rd.  All 3rd-6th grade teams will play at least 1 week night, with the final teams in each bracket playing on Saturday, March 8th.

Basketball Update December 19th.

Game schedules will be posted on this page once the teams are finalized.

 

We still need a few more coaches for the basketball season.  Please go to “Volunteer Opportunities” under Civic Rec to register. 

 

The start to the season is staggered a little.  Different age groups start on different dates.

• K-2 Begins on January 11th. 

• The 3/4 & 5/6 combines are on Jan 4th.

• The 7th and 8th combines are on Jan 10.

• HS Ball starts on Jan 11.

• The January 11th chart is reflective of a normal Saturday, once the season starts.  We will share and post the individual team schedules once the players are assigned to a squad. 

 

The below chart shows the schedule for the first 2 weekends including the combine times.  The boys division combines are divided into 2 groups based on last names. 

 

What is the combine?  It’s a fun event for the kids in grades 3-8 where we set up stations to evaluate the players.  It helps us balance the teams and it’s a fun experience for the players.  If your child misses it, she/he will be still be assigned.  If they play poorly, that is OK too and they will still be assigned.
